THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 4 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON.
* LOCATION…NORTHWESTERN WARREN COUNTY…NEAR COLUMBUS…BEAR LAKE AND SUGAR GROVE.
* ACCUMULATIONS…3 TO 4 INCHES. GENERALLY 1 TO 2 INCHES TO THE SOUTHEAST OF WARREN.
* TIMING…LAKE EFFECT SNOW BECOMING STEADIER BETWEEN 8 AND 10 AM…AND CONTINUING INTO THE LATE AFTERNOON HOURS TODAY.
* WINDS…WEST TO NORTHWEST 5 TO 10 MPH
* IMPACTS…SNOW AND ICE COVERED ROADS AND LOCALLY POOR VISIBILITY.
* TEMPERATURES (OPTIONAL)…24 TO 29 DEGREES.
* VISIBILITIES (OPTIONAL)…1 TO 3 MILES ACROSS THE NORTHWEST PART OF THE COUNTY…OCCASIONALLY DROPPING TO ONE HALF OF A MILE OR LESS IN HEAVIER LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW TYPICALLY FALLS AS NARROW BANDS OF HEAVY SNOW WITHIN A LARGER AREA OF LIGHTER SNOWFALL. GIVEN THE NATURE OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW… VISIBILITIES CAN BECOME REDUCED VERY RAPIDLY…SOMETIMES TO NEAR ZERO OVER ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE. PLAN ON EXTRA TRAVEL TIME BECAUSE CONDITIONS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO SLOW DOWN.
