Lawrence “Cino” Faes, 87, of Crosby

Lawrence “Cino” Faes, 87, of Crosby, died Saturday (January 15, 2011) at his residence in Crosby.

He was born Aug 21, 1923 in Crosby, a son of Francesco and Ernesta Faes. On June 24, 1950, in Smethport, PA, he married Elizabeth A. “Betty” Ross, who survives.

Mr. Faes attended Crosby and Colegrove Schools. He was an Aviation Ordnance 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. Faes worked for North Penn Gas Co., now UGI, in Port Allegany, PA, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Church, the Norwich Township Vol. Fire Dept. of Crosby, the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, had played in several local bowling leagues over the years, and was an avid baseball and softball player. He had tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates after his discharge from the Navy. Cino ultimately enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren

In addition to his wife, he is survived by
one daughter: DeDe M. (Greg) Latimer of Warren, PA
four sons: Steven L. (Bonnie) Faes of Crosby, PA, Valen J. (Ron) Faes of Warrenton, VA, Lee A. (Roberta) Faes of East Smethport, PA, and Daniel J. (Margie) Faes of Amherst, NY
10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, at 10 A.M., in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. A Christian Wake service will be conducted in the funeral home Monday at 7:30 PM. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby.
