LINK: DNA in Pennsylvania slaying is a 720 trillion-to-1 match, expert says
1 min readRIDGWAY, Pa. — An expert says the odds are 720 trillion-to-1 that DNA found at the scene of a north-central Pennsylvania hairdresser’s rape and murder in 1999 belongs to anyone but the man on trial for the crimes.
That Bradford Era reports that testimony came Thursday from a state police crime lab expert in the Elk County trial of 36-year-old Lawrence Donachy.
Testimony was expected to continue Friday into the killing of 57-year-old Irene Challingsworth. A customer found her dead at her St. Marys home, which doubled as a beauty shop. Police say she was bound, raped and stabbed in the neck, and her bed had been set on fire in April 1999.
