Marcellus Shale Activity Busiest In Two Townships

A new service has been developed by members of the Potter County Natural Gas Task Force that allows the public to pinpoint the location of natural gas wells in Potter County. Bob Volkmar of God’s Country/Trout Unlimited and Bob Veilleux, an educator with Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Potter County Education Council, are compiling directories.

In addition to the accompanying chart, they have available a spreadsheet detailing specific well activity in each municipality and a navigable map. Each document will be frequently updated. As one can see from the chart, much of the early Marcellus Shale drilling is in West Branch Township in southeastern Potter County and Pleasant Valley Township in the county’s northwestern corner.
