Meeting On Future Of Arts Council Scheduled Thursday

An effort is underway to revive the Potter County Fine Arts Council. Those interested in becoming involved are invited to a meeting at 7 pm Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Genesee Environmental Center (formerly Penn Valley Resort/Riverbend Inn). The organization has been struggling in recent years to adjust to financial limits, declining participation and competing priorities and/or philosophies, causing its leadership to consider dissolution. In 2009, the arts council retained a consultant, Marilyn Coleman, to study the organization’s challenges. She concluded that unless additional volunteers stepped forward to support those few who remained involved, the council would have to consider shutting down. Over the years, the council has been involved in a series of successful and diverse programs, supporting musicians, artists and quality cultural events.
