Meeting Thursday On County Hazard Mitigation Plan
1 min readFrom Potter County Today
A planning team is seeking public input as it updates Potter County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. They’re involved in a comprehensive effort to reduce risks, ranging from man-made hazards to floods, hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes or earthquakes. Eventually, Potter County’s plan will be submitted for approval by federal and state emergency management agencies before being proposed for adoption by the county, townships and boroughs. A public meeting on the plan will be held on Thursday (Feb. 16) at 7 pm in the Gunzburger Building auditorium in Coudersport. Borough and township offficials, as well as anyone else interested in the plan, are encouraged to attend.
Among the common mitigation actions are enforcement of building and flood plain management codes and environmental regulations; maintenance of roads, culverts, dams and bridges; standards for retrofitting of structures and new construction; protection of critical facilities; planning and public education. Cost of the plan is covered by the federal government. GMR Consulting of Coudersport is the overseer. Individuals who have stories or photos to share, documenting disasters which have occurred in Potter County, are asked to send the information to info@potterhmp.com.
