Meth Lab Explodes in Andover, Four Arrested

ANDOVER, N.Y. – One person has been hospitalized for burns and smoke inhalation, and three others arrested as the result of a methamphetamine laboratory explosion in the town of Andover, NY.

State Police in Amnity say they were called to the scene of a fire at a trailer on County Road 22 last night. An investigation determined the cause of the fire to be a meth lab explosion.

As a result, Steven M. Weiss, 22, Elizabeth K. Martin, 31, and Angie M. Matison, 34, all of Andover, were arrested and charged with 3rd degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine and 2nd degree criminal possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material.

A fourth individual has been hospitalized in police custody at Jones Memorial for treatment of 1st and 2nd-degree burns as well as smoke inhalation. Police are waiting to charge the fourth suspect once discharged.

The trailer suffered extensive damage. The fire remains under investigation.

Several area fire agencies and law enforcement officials in New York responded to the scene.
