Michael A. Carnovale, 55, of Orange, California passed away at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

Born February 23, 1956 in St. Marys, PA, he was the son of Bruno A. Carnovale and the late Marlene Wolfel Carnovale. On June 15, 1991 at St. Patrick’s Church in San Diego, CA, he married Elva Lau who survives.

Michael was a 1974 graduate of Cameron County High School and a graduate of Mansfield University with a degree in law enforcement and criminology. He was employed as a police officer in Atlantic City, NJ and Denver, CO before joining the Marriott Hotel Corporation where he worked in 8 different cities over a period of 26 years. Most recently he worked in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles and Dana Point, CA as hotel manager and director of security and loss prevention. He was an expert in the installation and maintenance of keyless-card lock, security camera and alarm systems. While at the Marriott Marquis in NYC, Mike received the President’s Award for resuscitating a young boy who nearly drowned in the hotel pool. At the Marriott-Anaheim Convention Center, many notable guests were hosted including Presidents, Presidential candidates, government and military leaders as well as foreign dignitaries. Mike would meet with the local police and government officials to establish safety and security measures.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Madeline, and a son, Alexander; his father, Bruno Carnovale of Emporium, PA; four sisters, Debra (David) Gschwendtner of St. Marys, PA, Maria (Dennis) DiBello of St. Leonard, MD, Kathleen Carnovale of Emporium, PA, Laurie (James) Horrocks of York, PA; one brother, Frank (Paula) Camovale of Bloomfield Hills MI, his mother-in-law, Thelma Lau of Walnut, CA, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Michael loved gardening, cooking/baking, skiing and spending time with his family. He enjoyed sports and was a member of the wrestling and football team at Cameron County High School and played football for Mansfield University. He was an active member of St. Norbert Catholic Church in Orange, CA and a volunteer at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA. Mike was involved in many community, professional and religious organizations.

A Vigil and Rosary Service were held on October 17, 2011 at St. Norbert’s and a Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, October 18th at St. Norbert’s with Father Patrick Rudolph as celebrant. Burial was at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church in Emporium on Saturday, December. 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert and Rev. Daniel Wolfel Concelebrating.
