HARRISBURG – Hours after Auditor General Jack Wagner said hundreds of historic artifacts were missing, the stuff started turning up.
During a news conference Thursday, Mr. Wagner said at least 1,800 historic artifacts were missing from state collections, but five hours later officials from the State Museum Commission said they had already located almost 300 of them and expected to find more.
Among the items located were an 18th-century waistcoat, a sketch of Theodore Roosevelt and a Smokey Bear statue.
The waistcoat was found in the State Museum, the sketch is hanging in the governor’s residence, and the statue had been returned to its owner who had loaned it to the Lumber Museum in Potter County.
