New PA Law to Govern Abortion Clinics

HARRISBURG – A new law which takes affect this week will give Pennsylvania the ability to further regulate abortion clinics.

The new law requires clinics to be licensed as outpatient surgical facilities and requires regular inspection by the Department of Health.

The law was a reaction by the state legislature after a Philadelphia man was charged with murder while performing abortions. Authorities allege the man murdered at least 6 full-term babies who were born alive.

Health officials have commended the law, saying it gives them much needed oversight over abortion clinics.
