New Program Promotes Van-Pooling To Work

Transportation is one of the biggest barriers for people who want to work, but have no way to get where the jobs are. A partnership spelled out during last week’s Potter County Commissioners meeting removes that obstacle. The Vanpool Advantage Network (VAN) subsidizes transportation pooling, according to long-time Area Transportation Authority employee Rich Viglione. For example, if seven or more out-of-town residents worked the same shift at Empereon Marketing in Coudersport, they could ride together to and from work through VAN. Even if commuters own a vehicle, they can save money and take advantage of tax deductions by using VAN. Employers are also given incentives to become involved with VAN. Viglione said a minimum employee group of seven is required to qualify for VAN.
