Next Reorganizational Meeting Of Arts Council Scheduled Sept. 25

An effort is underway to revive the Potter County Fine Arts Council. Those interested in becoming involved are invited to a meeting at 7 pm Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Genesee Environmental Center (formerly Penn Valley Resort/Riverbend Inn). The organization has been struggling in recent years to adjust to financial limits, declining participation and competing priorities and/or philosophies, causing its leadership to consider dissolution. In 2009, the arts council retained a consultant, Marilyn Coleman, to study the organization’s challenges. She concluded that unless additional volunteers stepped forward to support those few who remained involved, the council would have to consider shutting down. A handful of local citizens responded to an initial call for new volunteers. Over the years, the council has been involved in a series of successful and diverse programs, supporting musicians, artists and quality cultural events.
