No Injuries after Woman Fell Asleep at Wheel on Route 872
1 min readHOMER TWP. – No one was injured after a Ridgway woman fell asleep at the wheel of her car and crashed into a Wellsboro man’s car on Route 872, Saturday, May 14.
Police say 53-year-old Mary M. Costanzo was traveling north in a 2000 Honda Civic when she fell asleep, veered into the southbound lane, and struck the driver’s side door of 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 46-year-old Robert J. Zelinski, of Wellsboro.
Police say Zelinski attempted to swerve away from the oncoming car before impact.
No one was injured in the crash, including 45-year-old Michelle A. Zelinski – a passenger in Zelinski’s vehicle.
As a result of the crash, Costanzo faces charges for careless driving and failing to drive on roadways laned for traffic.
Coudersport Fire and Rescue, Coudersport EMS, and State Police assisted at the scene of the crash.
Both vehicles were towed by Kightlinger Motors of Coudersport.
