NY Assembly Votes to Extend Drilling Moratorium by One Year
1 min readALBANY, NY – Those looking to exploit a region of the Marcellus Shale formation found in New York State, will have to wait at least one more year, if the New York State Assembly has its way.
Assemblyman today passed legislation extending the State’s moratorium on natural gas drilling, amid concerns of polluting the environment.
Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak told reporters the state needed more time to understand the impact of hydrofracking.
Gabryszak also said the chemical compounds used in the process needed to be known, before expanding into the Marcellus Shale deposits would be possible.
The legislation will now need to pass the Republican-controlled State Senate to become law.
