OPINION: Through An Old Timer’s Eyes

3 min read

First off I would like to say that Ken Gerg’s “My Side” column on the Tea Party in last week’s paper was well written, informative and a good read. What upsets me is no matter how much we squawk here in the Land of the Endless Mountains, about all that we get out of it is a sore throat.

We are in the ground underneath an old-time outside privy and the politicians don’t pay us any mind or show us any respect. I am not talking about the people on the school board or the people in local or county government, but the jokers we send to Harrisburg and Washington. They don’t even know that we exist.

Compared to the population in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Philly, we couldn’t influence any general election. We are honorable and we vote, but that is an act of futility.

I am sick of the political correctness in our society. Everyone is oversensitive and they expect you to say just the right words and God forbid if you have an opinion or a concern that offends somebody else.

Take the case of Juan Williams. He was a journalist, author, and a political commentator for National Public Radio. He is still a journalist and author, but he is not a political commentator for NPR any more.

He lost his job because of a comment he made while being interviewed by Bill O’Reilly on that propaganda television network, Fox News.

How dare Mr. Williams be honest about what he was feeling or thinking? During the interview, he admitted he is uncomfortable on an airplane when there were Muslims aboard. This touched off a real firestorm and the thin-skinned and politically correct crowd raised enough hell that NPR fired this man.

The last thing I knew, it was pretty clear about the background, affiliation and the mission of the enemies who attacked America on Sept. 11, 2001. Other people with the same beliefs and the same mission as those evil suicide bombers are constantly threatening our country. So when people who have similar characteristics to those enemies of our country climb aboard an airplane, what would you think?

NPR gets its funding from the private sector and our government. This is the same government that defends our right to free speech.

Why are our representatives in Washington not upholding the Constitution? There is an organization circulating petitions to get the funding for NPR cut off.

By the way, Mr. Williams will be just fine. He has signed on with Fox News and probably got a big raise in pay. I guess that is the way the old Mercedes Benz.

Did you know that October has five Fridays, five Saturdays and five Sundays? These are called money bags, but I don’t know why.

If I found a bag of money, it would probably be counterfeit. I am so lucky that if it were raining soup, I would have a fork.

Read this story and more in tomorrow’s edition of the Endeavor News. Simply the better paper. Make the switch and save.

  1. Sounds like a grumpy ole man grumbling. If we all share the mentality that our voice doesn’t count, then surely it will not.
