PA Borough Bans Fracking
1 min readBALDWIN, PA – The Borough of Baldwin, located in Allegheny County, PA has passed by a 5-1 vote a community-rights oriented ban ordinance, prohibiting the commercial extraction of natural gas from within the borough limits.
The ordinance was passed on the grounds that it violates residents’ civil rights by threatening their health, safety, and welfare. The ordinance further asserts the borough’s right to local, community self-governance, and its duty to protect the residents, neighborhoods, and the natural environment of Baldwin Borough.
I felt this article was newsworthy considering the fact that energy companies plan to drill in the Borough of Coudersport.
