PA Compiles List of Chemicals Used in Hydraulic Fracturing Process

Compounds reportedly cause neurological problems and other serious health affects

Pennsylvania has comprised a list of chemicals known to be used during the hydraulic fracturing process.

The chemical compounds are said to produce serious health affects, including neurological disorders.

DEP officials today said they plan to post the list online this week.

Environmentalists argue that pumping millions of gallons of water treated with these chemicals deep underground has and will again pollute drinking water. State officials disagree, saying that there are no known cases of water contamination in PA. Their position is that the water is heavily diluted and handled safety, but critics and recent reports indicate that spills are much more common than reported.
