PA Electronic Recycling Bill Passes House
1 min readPA House Bill 708 would soon give Pennsylvanians a means to dispose of old computers and televisions, rather than sending them to a landfill. In fact, it would be illegal within two years to dispose of such items at a landfill.
Recycling these electronic devices will serve several purposes. First, it will eliminate the toxic pollution that televisions and computers leak in landfills. Second, since it is cheaper to recycle materials than to produce new ones, it will be beneficial for manufacturers. Third, it will give consumers a free way to dispose of old televisions, computers, and electronic equipment that can now be costly to dispose of.
The Bill will require computer and television manufacturers to establish and manage recycling service centers.
Twenty two states have similar laws. The Bill now moves to the Senate.
