UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A Texas company with plans for a $16.2 million natural gas pipeline from 17 Marcellus Shale wells in southwestern Pennsylvania is seeking public utility status.
If the state Public Utility Commission grants the request, Peregrine Keystone Gas Pipeline LLC, of Fort Worth, will be able to seize private land through eminent domain if it can’t negotiate deals with land owners. But it would also be subject to rate regulation, safety measures and consumer services dictated by state public utility laws.
