2 min readLTC Betty A. WHITMIRE, Retired, 75, of Chambersburg, PA, formerly of Westfield, PA, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 in her home.
Born January 22, 1937, in Westfield, PA, she was the daughter of Ernest and Rebecca Anders Whitmire.
Attending Westfield High School through the 11th grade, she graduated from Southside High School in Elmira in 1955. She earned a nursing degree from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in Elmira and enlisted in the US Army in February 1959. She later earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, TX and a masters degree in healthcare administration from Texas Women’s University in Dallas, TX. After retirement from the US Army, she was employed as a nurse by various electronics manufacturing companies. She was a member of Corpus Christ Catholic Church in Chambersburg, where she had served as a Eucharistic minister.
Surviving are: five sisters, Rubilee Feerrar of Woolrich, PA, Joan Hornsby of Mills, PA, Jeanette (Charles) Wynick of Westfield, Carolyn Nyhof of Little River, SC, and Florence (Alfred) Allen of Monterey, CA; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Abbey; and a brother, Wallace Whitmire.
Friends may call at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM. The Rev. James R. O’Brien will be the Celebrant. A graveside committal service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 6, 2012 in Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, PA, where military rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.
