2 min readPeter R. Slaven, Jr. age 76, of Willow Circle in Painted Post, NY died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at his home.
Pete was born in Galeton, PA on October 21, 1935, to Peter and Ann (Orvek) Slaven, Sr. He married Joyce Hall in 1954 and was preceded in death by her in 1993. He married Pauline Gardiner in 1997 and was preceded in death by her in 2011. Pete had been a machinist for Corning Packaging and Weyerhauser until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Campbell American Legion, enjoyed playing cards, and watching John Wayne movies.
He is survived by his five daughters, Linda Fiechtner of Largo, FL, Cindy (Dennis) Spellicy of Inverness, FL, Debbie (Chris) Townsend of Painted Post, Gail (Doug) Baker of Painted Post, and Bonnie Slaven of Corning; son, John Slaven of Elmira Heights; step son, Eugene (Jean) Galligan of Campbell; two brothers, Robert Slaven of Corning and James Slaven of Elmira; 12 grandchildren, Shane, Sara, Aaron, Matthew, Ashlee, Melissa, Kyle, John Jr., Craig, Brian, Kevin, and Amanda; great granddaughters, Makayla and Tegan; step grandchildren, Heidi (Greg) Crooker of Savona, Angela Galligan of Campbell; step great grandchildren, Lauren, Carter, Trentyn and Olivia; sisters-in –law and brothers-in-law, Sandy Gardiner of Campbell, Phyllis Gardiner of Campbell, Shirley (Arthur) Stamp of Bath, NY, George (Bernie) Hall of Lexington, SC, and Phillip Gardiner of Corning; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pete was predeceased by his son, Timothy Slaven, sister and brothers, Elizabeth, Richard, and Michael.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 29th from 2-4 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning where funeral services will follow at 4:00PM with Rev. Kit Tobin officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Knoll Cemetery, Painted Post.
The family will provide flowers and ask that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
