Passing of Veronica M. Anderson, of Port Allegany
2 min readPORT ALLEGANY- Veronica M. Anderson, of Chestnut St. passed away Friday (Jan. 27, 2012) in the Bradford Nursing Pavilion.
Born October 1, 1918, in Blossburg, PA, she was a daughter of Stanley and Margaret Plocinski Pawlak. On July 14, 1945, in Blossburg, PA, she married J. Gordon Anderson, who died May 10, 2005.
Mrs. Anderson was a resident of the area for over 46 years coming from Blossburg, PA.
She was a graduate of Blossburg High School, Class 1936.
She had been employed as a receptionist with the former Blossburg State Hospital and as a teacher’s aide with the Port Allegany School District, Arnold Ave. Elementary School, for several years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Port Allegany, and Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Republican Women, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 460 of Port Allegany, and former member of the Smethport Country Club and its Couples League. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several local clubs. She also enjoyed reading and golfing.
Surviving is a daughter, Ruth M. (Thomas) Calkins of Bradford; a grandson, Tyler John Calkins of State College, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, J. Gordon, two brothers, Walter Pawlak and Ray Pawlak; and two sisters, Catherine Manikowski and Helen Boyce.
A private visitation will be held in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 30, 2012) in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, with Rev. James Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be in Arnot Cemetery, Blossburg.
