PETITION: Two Bills Assault Local Government’s Marcellus Shale Regulation
1 min readby Ron Slabe
Two bills in the Pennsylvania legislature would preempt all local ordinances attempting to regulate Marcellus drilling in their municipalities and replace them with weak state regulations allowing Marcellus drilling even in residential areas.
These bills are an assault on local governments’ sovereignty and the democratic process. They would allow corporate gas interests to dictate what legislation will be passed. It is an outrage that must be stopped.
That’s why I created a petition to the Pennsylvania State House and Senate and Governor Tom Corbett on SignOn.org, which says:
Oppose PA HB 1950 and SB 1100, which would preempt strong local ordinances regulating Marcellus drilling in Pennsylvania and replace them with weak and inadequate state regulations.
