Police Blotter – Car Hits Bear, $5k in Citations Issued to Truck Driver

No injuries after car hits bear

PIKE TWP. – A 17-year-old male driver was uninjured after the car he was driving hit a bear on Route 6. State Police say the juvenile was traveling East on Route 6 Monday, October 18 at 8:51 pm when a bear entered the roadway from the northern side. The juvenile then struck the bear, causing major front end damage to the vehicle and killing the bear. The boy was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Truck driver with suspended license find over $5,000

PIKE TWP. – State Police report that on Monday, October 18 at 6:10 pm a commercial motor vehicle inspection was conducted on a 2000 Peterbilt with a 2005 Fontaine flatbed trailer, owned by Moses G. King, 53 of Faison, NC. The tractor trailer, which was carrying construction equipment on Route 6, was hauling an oversize load. Upon inspection it was found that King was operating the truck on a suspended license, the registration was expired, the oversize load was incorrectly marked, the oversize hauling permit contained inaccurate information, the trailer registration was not properly displayed and there was no valid inspection. Five citations totaling more than $5,000 were issued.
