Police Remind Motorists of new ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown’ Law
1 min readCOUDERSPORT- With the impending severe weather from Hurricane Sandy less than a day away, State Police in Coudersport are reminding motorists of a new law which took effect Sept. 3, 2012.
Dubbed the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” law, Section 3111.1 calls for a $250 penalty for any motorist who “drives past, around or through a sign or traffic-control device closing a road or highway due to an existing or potentially hazardous condition.”
The law also calls for a $500 fine if the act “results in the utilization of the services of a first responder or emergency medical or rescue personnel, including towing services.”
