Potter County has qualified for another “Promising Practices” grant to extend dental care to more children from low-income families. Among participating dentists is Dr. Victor Brown (shown) of Coudersport. Through the grant, the county provides dental care and education to those ages 3 to 17 who are not eligible for medical assistance and do not have dental insurance, or whose families cannot pay for needed dental treatment. Another criteria is that the child have a pre-urgent or urgent need for dental care.
Potter County Integrated Children’s Services Planning Board is implementing the dental initiative. Last year, 10 dental providers treated various conditions for 32 youths. In addition, 119 youths received dental screenings. Also, 870 dental packets have been given to school students. School nurses, area health providers and dentists have applications available in their offices. More information is available from Joy Glassmire, available toll-free at 1-800-800-2560.
