Potter County Fair – 'Show Must Go On'

Potter County Today

Pennsylvania’s 2009-10 budget slashed the modest operating grant for the Potter County Fair, and organizers are anxious to learn the status of county fair support in the 2010-11 budget agreement lawmakers reached today. In the meantime, they emphasize that “the show must go on” and are busy planning for the Aug. 1-7 event at the fairgrounds in Millport.

Politicians cut the state grant from $18,000 to $10,000 in 2009. At least three county fairs were cancelled as a result of reduced state support. The Potter County Fair Association has vowed to keep going, although the leadership believes that any further cut in state funds will have an impact. It’s one of the few county fairs that does not charge an admission fee or a parking fee.
