Potter County Fine Arts Council Winding Down

Declining participation has caused the leadership of the Potter County Fine Arts Council to begin taking steps toward dissolution. The  organization has been struggling in recent years to adjust to financial limits, declining participation and competing priorities and/or philosophies. In 2009, the arts council retained a consultant, Marilyn Coleman, to conduct a study of the organization’s challenges. She concluded that unless additional volunteers stepped forward to support those few who remained involved, the organization would have to consider shutting down. Over the years, the council has been involved in a series of successful and diverse programs, supporting musicians, artists and quality cultural events.
