Northern Tier Camp Cadet graduated a class of 65 youths from Potter, Cameron and Tioga counties last week at Mansfield University. During the ceremony, Robin Freeman of Potter County was honored for her years of service with the camp. She is shown here with Camp Cadet Director Det. Scott Henry. Robin has supported and promoted Camp Cadet for many years and is an active volunteer during the weeklong summer camp.
Chosen as honor cadets this year were Logan McGovern from Tioga County and Alexis Adams from Potter County. They will attend the State Police Commissioner’s Honor Camp in Hershey next summer. Also attending from Potter County were Jeri Houghtaling, Destinee Powell, Blake Jeffers, Hunter Zebley, Alison Wright, Diyon Ayers, Alexander Bernard, Sean Cummings, Zachary Eschrich, Ryder Howard, Tristian Rees, Dalton Rinehart, Troy Schroeder and Ty Sturdevant.
The weeklong event at Mansfield University provides an atmosphere of a police academy and emphasizes self-discipline for 12- and 13-year-olds from Potter, Cameron and Tioga counties. Northern Tier Camp Cadet is designed to create a better understanding between the youths of the three-county area and professional law enforcement.
This year’s cadets participated in tactical team exercises, crime scene processing, communications, orienteering, and swimming. They also interacted with municipal officers, probation officers, state troopers, and other members of the law enforcement community to gain a better understanding of, and respect for, their roles.
A fund-raising poker run for Northern Tier Camp Cadet will be held on Aug. 7 at Larry’s Sports Center.
