According to Northeimer, Rotary supports various book projects such as Read to Grow Books and the Dictionary Project, believing that literacy can break cycles of poverty and creates leaders.  “We need to remember that many of our local families do not have a home computer or access to the internet, let alone money to buy books, and the local library may be their only means of accessing these resources,” added Northeimer.“After learning that the local library’s funding was cut 21% this year and would be cut an additional 9% in 2011, we felt we had to make the library one of our priorities this Christmas,” stated Pat Northeimer, Rotary Club Board Member.  Despite the budget cuts, the number of visits from patrons to the library has increased 17% from last year and the number of items circulating has increased nearly 20% over the last two years.

Over the last 150 years, the Coudersport Public Library has evolved into a 21st century library, now offering high speed and wireless internet access, downloadable audio and e-books and online reference databases.  The Library also provides weekly children’s story hour programs and promotes learning, reading, and cultural enrichment in our community.

According to Library Director Keturah Cappadonia, “It is because of the generous support of the Coudersport area community through donations and fundraisers that our library has been able to continue operations smoothly with little to no service interruptions during the past year.”  “And as we face another year of decreased funding in 2011, we hope to be able to continue to do all we can to fulfill the library and informational needs of our community’s residents,” added Cappadonia.

Those wishing to make a direct donation of time, items or financial support, to the Coudersport Public Library should contact Keturah Cappadonia, Director, at (814) 274- 9382.
