Rotary Secret Santa 2010 Holiday Gift Project
2 min readMembers of the Coudersport Rotary Club joined this past Monday at the Club’s annual Christmas Party, an event which concludes the Club’s Secret Santa Holiday Gift Project.
“Each year, Rotary obtains a list of gift requests from certain Coudersport area children of families in need of a little boost during the holidays. The children’s names are always kept confidential and the Rotary Secret Santas remain anonymous,” stated John Abplanalp, Rotary Holiday Gift Project Chairman.
The Club began the Holiday Gift Project several years ago in lieu of buying gifts for other members and in furtherance of the Rotary motto, “Service above Self.” “The gifts almost always include an article of clothing of that child’s choice from jeans to hoodies to coats, however our member’s traditionally sneak in an extra toy or gift certificate to make it more exciting for the kids,” added Abplanalp.
Rotary Club Members will also be ringing the Salvation Army Bells this year at the Coudersport Dollar General during the period of December 20th through December 23rd (Monday thru Thursday) from 6-8 p.m. and is asking for the community’s support! “The Salvation Army has been instrumental in assisting local families with their heating bills this winter in conjunction with the Christmas House, not to mention fulfilling several of the other basic needs such as clothing,” according to Karen Cahilly, Rotary President.
