Roy Hunt Announces Candidacy for Potter County Sheriff

2 min read

I, Roy Hunt, am pleased to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Potter County. I am proud to be running on the Republican ballot but would also appreciate write in votes on the Democratic ballot.

The Office of Sheriff is required by the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Office of the Sheriff is responsible for, but may not be limited to; serving Protection from Abuse orders, executing warrants, serving civil papers, levies, sale of real and personal property to satisfy judgments, courtroom security, issuing of protection permits, and to transport prisoners to and from any appointment or activity deemed necessary by the Courts. In Potter County, the Sheriff also serves as the Warden of the Potter County Jail and is responsible for all operations and overseeing the budget for the jail.

Initially, as a Boy Scout, I discovered the satisfaction of serving my community. On the road to earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1986, I realized the effort necessary needed to maintain this degree of service. That road also led me to, in 1983, joining the Crary Hose Volunteer Fire Co. and was elected President of the Junior Firemen in 1985. I remained so until the age of 18 when I was voted in as a Senior Firefighter. I also became an E.M.T. in 1987. I have continued to maintain membership as a volunteer firefighter and EMS provider for Pennsylvania since then, and have served as both in a volunteer capacity as well as a paid E.M.T. while in New Jersey. I am currently a member of Tri-Town Volunteer Fire Co. and Ambulance Co. in Ulysses. I was elected as an Ass’t Fire Chief from 1998 until 2007 when I was elected as Fire Chief and served as such thru 2010.

In 2001, I was hired by Adelphoi Village to work with court ordered juvenile offenders. In 2002, I was appointed by then President Judge John Leete to serve as Pennsylvania State Constable for Ulysses. I was then elected as Constable in 2004. In 2002 I was hired as a Corrections Officer for Potter County and I completed the State Corrections Academy in 2004. I continue serving as a Corrections Officer for Potter County. I also serve as Officer-in-Charge part time and am the Instructor for Tactical O/C Spray for the facility. I completed grant writing classes and have been successful in obtaining over $85,000 in grants. I also completed training and am certified as an Incident Commander thru Homeland Security.

As a devoted husband and father of 5 living in Ulysses, I look forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Potter County as Sheriff. Please feel free to e-mail me at RoyHunt4Sheriff@roadrunner.com or look for me on www.facebook.com/RoyHunt4Sheriff. I will try to answer all questions in a timely manner. Thank you for your support.
