Scio Man Killed in Crash

TROUPSBURG – A Scio man is dead following an accident early Sunday morning on Route 36 in the town of Troupsburg.

Killed in the accident was 25-year-old Ty Pierce.

Police in Steuben County said the crash happened around 4:30 am when Pierce failed to negotiate a left-hand turn in the roadway, striking a delineator post and then traveling 135 feet up an incline and impacting a tree head-on.

Both Pierce and his passenger were extricated from the vehicle with the jaws of life.

Pierce was taken to St. James Hospital in Hornell where he was pronounced dead.

His passenger, an unidentified 44-year-old male, was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
