UPDATE: Simon P. Heffner, 27, of Cyclone, PA was arrested and jailed on charges of Simple Assault and Terroristic Threats following a standoff with police that began Saturday afternoon.

Officials say the standoff began at 12:10 pm on Saturday afternoon when Heffner assaulted his father, Andrew E. Heffner, Sr., in his home, allegedly breaking one of the 68-year-old man’s fingers. After the confrontation with his father, Heffner is accused of threatening to shoot his father or any police officers that may be called.

Police say Heffner then left his father’s home and barricaded himself inside a camper located behind his father’s trailer with a 30-30 rifle he had been hunting deer with.

Heffner’s family then fled the trailer and contacted State Police. Troopers from Kane responded to the scene and established a perimeter with agents from the State Police Emergency Response Team (SERT) later assisting.

Officials say they contacted Heffner by megaphone and unsuccessfully attempted to negotiate with him for several hours.

Sometime after 1:30 am on Sunday morning, police used tear gas to force Heffner into surrendering.

Police say no one was injured during the apprehension.
