1 min read

SWEDEN TWP. – The Sweden Township Police Department has announced several grants.

The department will soon see a new in-car video camera system, thanks to a $3,000 grant. The new camera will be mounted in the department’s marked patrol car.

The department says the installation of video equipment will aid in officer safety. Civilian groups also advocate the use of video equipment by police, saying such evidence is useful for defending suspects in court.

The department will also receive new ballistic vests using an additional $2,000 grant. The vest, which require replacement every 5 years, cost $850 each.

Officers are required to wear the vests anytime they are acting in an official capacity.
