Hundreds of seventh- and eighth-graders from Potter County school districts converged on Northern Potter High School for the annual Teen Conference, aimed at motivating youth to make wise choices. It was also an opportunity for the young people to meet others, learn about themselves, and hear from a variety of speakers. The 11th annual conference was sponsored by Potter County Human Services and partnering organizations. Featured speaker was Darrell “Coach D” Andrews (left), who staged a high-energy assembly designed to help the students connect their dreams to educational options and planning.
Other programs linked personal interests and personality traits to career choices. Staff from SUNY Alfred State College helped students understand robotic design. Students were also advised how to sharpen thinking abilities, manage stress, and work through tough issues, such as bullying and troubled relationships.
There were sessions on cosmetology, natural gas careers, dance, forensics and Tae Kwon Do. An eclectic musical group, Big Leg Emma, presented an interactive workshop and was assisted by students in a whimsical musical performance
