The Potter County Education Council will hold a digital camera class with Curt Weinhold at its Port Allegany location. Learn the proper method to maximize image quality from your camera. We will work with your Digital SLR or point & shoot and learn how to input a scene or portrait image, progressing to downloading to the computer; save and edit picture files, both jpeg and RAW files; and explore software from premium priced PhotoShop to free downloads for your computer. Please bring: camera, any extra lenses and memory card. It is strongly suggested that you understand the basics of your camera and read the instruction manual. Reality Therapy in the Classroom from ESU in Coudersport
East Stroudsburg University is offering a 3-credit course entitled Reality Therapy in the Classroom at the Coudersport office of the Potter County Education Council. This workshop is designed to increase proficiency in the use of Reality Therapy in the classroom. (The course presumes an understanding of philosophy and basic steps.) Emphasis will be placed on acquiring the skills in the implementation of the Reality Therapy approach to the educational environment. Classes will be held Friday nights from 5 to 10pm October 7, November 18 and December 9 and Saturdays from 8am to 6pm October 8, November 19, and December 10. Phlebotomy Technician Program
The Potter County Education Council and the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center are sponsoring a Phlebotomy Technician Course at the PCEC’s Port Allegany Office. This 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and will develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology; anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. Note: There is no outside externship rotation included with this program. Classes begin October 3 and will run through December 14, 2011 and will be held Monday – Wednesday (plus 3 Saturdays) 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. The course fee will be $1,599 per student and includes textbook. Pharmacy Technician Program
The Potter County Education Council and the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center are sponsoring a Pharmacy Technician Course at the PCEC’s Port Allegany Office. This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other health care settings – working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Classes will begin October 4 and run through December 15, 2011 and will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. The cost for the course will be $999 per student and includes textbook. PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation Train-the-Trainer
The Potter County Education Council and the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center are seeking interested individuals for the PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation Train-the-Trainer program. The PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation Train-the-Trainer course allows an instructor to administer the PEC Basic-Safe Gulf/SafeLand Orientation course. The PEC Basic-SafeGulf/SafeLand Orientation course was designed to take the place of multiple operator orientation courses and to give each student a general idea of life and safety issues in the oil and gas industry – upstream, downstream, onshore, and offshore. As more and more industries are accepting and/or requiring this credential, having an in-house trainer can greatly reduce the cost of certifying your employees and increases your flexibility in scheduling the training. Each instructor will receive classroom training and the following manuals: • PEC Basic Orientation Instructor Manual, • PEC Basic Orientation Student Manual, •PEC Basic Orientation Video, •All-in-One Video, •Backdrop for Student Photographs, •PowerPoint Presentation and reference material that will support the instruction of the program. Improving Your Digital Pictures
Join Curt Weinhold and learn how to improve your pictures by proper editing with free software from Google known as Picasa. Please bring a variety of images from your own camera on either memory card or CD. Alternatively, bring a camera and we will edit pictures taken on the spot. This class is being held at PCEC’s Coudersport location on Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a cost of $29 per person. Grant Writing in Coudersport presented by UPB
These two, 3-hour sessions will provide you with information on how to use the Internet to find funding sources, evaluate grant requirements, and write grant proposal requests. Near the end of the course, you will learn about the budget processes and issues that go hand-in-hand with grant writing. This course is being presented by the Continuing Education and Regional Development Department of UPB. The class is being held Tuesday and Thursday, October 4 and 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Coudersport office of the Potter County Education Council. Cost is $95 per participant. Photo Field Trip with Curt Weinhold
The PCEC and Curt Weinhold will be hosting a Fall photo field trip in Port Allegany. During the trip you will learn to really capture the beauty of Fall color in a hands-on demonstration during autumn’s peak! Students will meet at the parking lot of the Port Allegany Alliance Church, 414 E. Mill Street, and will travel to a destination to be announced. Once there, students will receive 3 hours of instruction and hands-on experience with the essence of composition and dealing with lighting conditions. Please bring: camera, any extra lenses and memory card (Optional: tripod & polarizing filter); lunch, water, suitable shoes and clothing for the day’s weather.
