Update on Route 872 Crash Yesterday

Juvenile female received minor injuries

AUSTIN – State Police have released information on the accident that occurred yesterday in Austin at the intersection of 872 and 607.

Police say 55-year-old Edelmiro Olivarez, of Rio Grande City, TX, was operating a 2008 Ford F-250 when he slowed to make a left-hand turn at the intersection of 872 and 607, onto Route 872. He was then rear-ended by a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by Michael A. Cain, 44, of Austin, PA, who police say was following too closely.

Both men were wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured. A 16-year-old female passenger in Cain’s vehicle, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident and was transported to CCMH.

Both vehicles suffered minor damage from the accident.

Cain faces charges in relation to Following Too Closely and Restraint Systems.

Austin Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Department responded to the scene.
