Potter County Today

lennyOne of Potter County’s oldest civic organizations has a special program in store in observance of Veterans Day. Allegewi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has scheduled a military veterans awareness program for Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Coudersport Public Library, starting at 7 pm. Guest speaker will be Lenny Kalkbrenner, Potter County Director of Veterans Affairs. He will explain programs and services available to veterans, widows or widowers of veterans, and anyone else interested in the well-being of the county’s veteran population. A discussion period will follow.

Kalkbrenner, a Vietnam veteran himself, has spearheaded an expansion of the county’s outreach and assistance efforts. He has been working with veterans service organizations in several Potter County communities for outreach visits. Kalkbrenner also teamed with the county commissioners and the Bath (N.Y.) VA Medical Center to establish the Potter County Veterans Primary Care Office and Outreach Center at the county seat. It opened in mid-July and has seen a steady number of military veterans making appointments and receiving service.

Kalkbrenner takes a strong interest in helping local veterans to access health care, compensation and pension benefits. He is available during regular office hours in the Gunzburger Building on Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 am to 3 pm, or Wednesdays through Fridays by appointment. His email address is lkalkbrenner@pottercountypa.net.
