Staff Sgt. Kenneth VanGiesen, 30, of Kane, PA, died July 18, 2011 as the result of injuries sustained while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
VanGiesen was one of three Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers killed on July 18 in a roadside bombing while serving on a mission with the 131st Transportation Company, 213th Area Support Group. This was VanGieson’s fourth combat tour.
He was escorted from the Bradford Airport to Kane, PA by PA State Police, McKean County Sheriff, the Patriot Guard Riders, and Legion Color guards.
A grateful yet heart broken community welcomed him home.
A funeral is set for 3 pm today, Thursday, July 28 at the Kane Area High School. Burial will be private.
