Potter County employees are mourning the loss of one of their own. Irene M. North, 73, of Harrison Valley, who was employed as the county’s West Nile Virus Program coordinator, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 3, in her home. She began working with the Department of Emergency Services in 1999 as a field technician for the West Nile Virus program and later became coordinator. She was recalled by her workmates as a person who was very dedicated to public safety through the monitoring of mosquito populations that might be carrying the virus. A native of Maryland, she was employed by Northern Potter School District for many years and was organist at the Harrison Valley Federated Church. She also served as an inspector of election for Harrison Township. Among survivors is her husband of 56 years, Jerrold L. North.
