Woodstove Blamed for Phil’s Auto Body Fire

WELLSBORO – A woodstove is being cited as the root of a fire that caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to Phil’s Auto Body in Wellsboro, Tioga County on Wednesday, February 23.

Firemen believe the blaze began behind a woodstove in the shop, which then spread to the roof trusses and eventually caused the ceiling to collapse.

No one was injured in the fire.

All of the vehicles in the garage, save for an antique moped, were saved.

The fire shutdown Route 6 for several hours.

Galeton and Wellsboro Fire Departments responded to the fire.
