Bruce D. Washburn, 74, of Smethport

Bruce D. Washburn, 74, of Smethport, died unexpectedly, Saturday (January 22, 2011) in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

He was born Dec. 14, 1936 in Bradford, son of Lawrence A. and Gladys M. Nourse Washburn. On Oct. 12, 1957, in St. Bernard Church, Bradford, he married Joan M. Pais, who survives.

Mr. Washburn was a 1954 graduate of Bradford Area High School and attended Bryant & Stratton College, where he earned a degree in Business.

Mr. Washburn was employed at Dresser Manufacturing, and later as a supervisor at Futures Rehabilitation Services of Bradford. After his retirement, he was able to devote his energy to woodworking projects for his family, friends and church.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, where he was a Lector/Commentator and a Eucharistic Minister.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by
five children: Andrew (Kathy) Washburn of Pittsburgh, PA, Karl (Cheri) Washburn of LeClaire, IA, Eric (Cathy) Washburn of Lansdale, PA, Sarah (Fred) von Staden of Colora, MD, and Natalie (Benjamin) Shipton of Mercer , PA
10 grandchildren: Maureen, Bennett, Spencer, Halley, and Curtis Washburn; Patrick, Kaitlin and Elaine Shipton; Samantha and Jacqueline von Staden

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex von Staden, and a sister, Sabra K. Everly.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, where a Memorial Mass will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
