Eldred Township Railroad Crossing Work on Route 446 will Require a Detour

SMETHPORT – Work to remove and replace a railroad crossing on Route 446, south of the village of Eldred, will take place next Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 18 to 20. The Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad will be working to remove the existing railroad-crossing surface and rebuild the structure through the crossing.

This work requires a closure on Route 446 in the surrounding area. An official detour will be in place and drivers will use Route 155, Route 6 and Route 46 to get around the closure. Local drivers may choose to use alternate routes. All work is weather dependent.

Message boards will be in place to alert drivers to the railroad crossing work, road closure and detour. PennDOT reminds drivers to follow detour signs, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
