Ex-Cop shot his own bullet-proof vest, then claimed to have been shot – also traded favors for free pizza

Jason Miller, 36, a former Gowanda police officer, was accused of fixing traffic tickets in exchange for free pizza.

He was due to be sentenced yesterday, but the sentencing was continued so that the Erie County Probation Department could complete a pre-sentencing investigation.

In June Miller admitted to hanging his bullet-proof vest from a tree, shooting it, and then reporting that he was shot by a gunman. He never gave a reason for doing so, but it sent the entire community into a panick, as everyone believed a police officer had been shot by a criminal, but no suspect could be found.

He also pleaded guilty to official misconduct in the pizza case.
