Local Newsletter Spotlights Recent Natural Gas Developments

Potter County Today

There is every indication that the natural gas industry will be dramatically boosting its local presence during the next several years and sticking around for a matter of decades. Developments at the local, regional, national and international levels all confirm the Marcellus Shale natural gas resource throughout much of northern, central and western Pennsylvania as a game-changer. Details are spelled out in the September edition of Monthly Roundup, the newsletter of the Potter County Natural Gas Task Force. Copies of the publication are available on the county’s website here (under Marcellus Shale/Natural Gas, Monthly Newsletter), or by contacting Commissioner Paul Heimel at 814-274-8290, Ext. 203. Among the highlights in the September edition:

  • Multibillion-dollar deals bring heavyweights to local gas fields.
  • Local job training available for gas industry jobs.
  • To tax, or not to tax? That is the question.
  • State’s new water discharge standards take effect; local citizens still concerned.
  • Gas-powered vehicles, power plants in the works to capitalize on vast reserves.
  • Gas well emergency training scheduled for local responders.
  • It’s not just Marcellus — companies eying other deep formations.
