Melvin C. Corsaw, 91, of Smithfield, IL

Melvin C. Corsaw, 91, of rural Smithfield, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on June 9, 1919, in Potter County, PA, to Orsey T. and Lida Morey Corsaw. He married Marjorie C. Utsinger on Oct. 20, 1944, at Camp Ellis. She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2008.

His son, Lyndell Corsaw, one brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Survivors include two children, David (Ardith) Corsaw of Smithfield and Wanda L. (Byron) Crawley of San Jose; a daughter-in-law, Marie Corsaw of Smithfield; a brother, Bernard Corsaw of Roulette, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Kristina (Edward) St. Clair of Broken Arrow, Okla., Chuck (Joy) Corsaw of Cuba, Ill., Mark (Debbie) Corsaw of Smithfield, Rodney Corsaw of Springfield, Laura Patterson of Cuba, Ill., Adam (Mindy) Corsaw of Downs, Tara (Rod) Capitani of Yates City, Karen (Dan’l) Lee of Canton, Kyle Crawley of Pekin and Kendra (Jeremy) Robison of Emden; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Melvin was an operating engineer working from Local 649 in Peoria.

Being a man of God and faithful servant, Melvin was a member of Wiley Lutheran Church in rural Ellisville.

He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge 534, AF&AM, the Peoria Consistory, and was very active with Children’s Haven International in Mexico.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Fairview American Legion Post 644.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Wiley Lutheran Church.

Burial with military honors will be at Wiley Cemetery in rural Ellisville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus, Hopedale Medical Complex or to Cuba Masonic Lodge.
