Passing of Bernard P. “Barney” Phelps, 67, of Mills, PA

Bernard P. “Barney” Phelps, 67, of Mills, PA, died Monday, May 14, 2012 in his home.

Born January 29, 1945, in Nelson, PA, he was the son of Woodrow and Beatrice Stratton Phelps.  A Vietnam War Veteran, he served honorably with the US Army from 1967– 1970.  On March 8, 1969, in North Bingham, PA, he married the former Judith Truax, who survives.  A graduate of El Paso Community College, he was employed by Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post, NY, Eberle Tannery in Westfield, Corning Glass Company, and CNG Transmission Corp.  He was a member of the Knoxville VFW.

Surviving besides his wife, Judy, are:  a daughter, Dawn (Timothy) Lewis of Harrison Valley;  two sons, Paul (Loni) Phelps of Whitesville, NY and Matt (Izabella) Phelps of Coudersport, PA;  five grandchildren;  two brothers, Victor (Charlene) Phelps of Wellsboro, PA and Gerald (Linda) Phelps of Tioga, PA;  a sister, Jonnie Jones of Nelson, PA;  and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Locke.

Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA, on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Ed Collins will officiate.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Holliday, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter County Hospice or Heart of Cole, c/o Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA 16915.
