Route 144 Bridge in Galeton Remains Closed

School buses will be using official detour

Galeton – With school in the Galeton area starting next week, PennDOT District 2 offers the following update for the Route 144 bridgework in Galeton.

  • Route 144 (Bridge Street) over Pine Creek in Galeton. The road has been closed since Aug. 8 to replace the bridge deck. The road will remain closed into late September. An official detour using Route 1020 (Germania Street/ Union Street), Route 2002 (West Street) and Route 6 remains in place. School buses will need to use this detour until work is complete in late September. A pedestrian walkway will be open on the bridge and students will be able to use the walkway to and from school.

This bridgework is part of a $1 million preservation contract for six bridges in Potter County. Swank Associated Companies of New Kensington is the contractor.

It is such a hassle not having that bridge available. They need to get it in gear. It shouldn’t take that long to fix the bridge, if it was in such a bad shape then they should have done it sooner.
