Floor Hand
This course will help prepare students for careers working as floor hands in the natural gas industry. This program is a combination of classroom and hands-on training. Topics include: Natural Gas Employability Skills, Natural Gas 101, Rig Components & Electrical Systems, Hydraulics, Pressures & Forces, Basic Rigging, Well Production, Basic Well Control, Spill Prevention & Reporting, Fall Protection, Safe Land USA, Basic First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving, Aerial Work Platform, and Rough Terrain Forklift.

We have almost reached the minimum number of students needed to run this course. Once we have received applications and pre-admission documents from 2 or 3 more people, we will schedule a start date and notify applicants. This is a 3-week course that will be held Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at PCEC’s Port Allegany location. Tuition is free but participants are responsible for pre-admissions clearances, physical, and drug testing and must register with ShaleNET and with their local CareerLink.

ECUA offering 2 Associate Degree Programs from Gannon University in Coudersport
Are you interested in going back to school but think it’s too late or too expensive to start this fall? Wait until you hear how Gannon and the Education Consortium of the Upper Allegheny (ECUA) can help make your educational goals a reality. Associate Degrees in Business Administration and Liberal Arts start August 22nd in Coudersport, Kane, and St. Marys.

Master Your Camera
Perplexed by nomenclature in the owner’s manual? Learn how to properly use your new or not so new digital camera in this class. From exposing an image to loading it to the computer, we will learn the basics in this two-hour course. We’ll look at lens choices, memory cards and that oftentimes confusing menu system built into your camera. Curt explains how to set up your camera for several conditions, such as action (kids or sports), landscapes and close-ups.

Please bring your camera and appropriate memory card. Also, please have some familiarity with your particular camera controls.

Photographing Autumn’s Colors
Enjoy this two-hour evening class exploring the nuances of effective autumn photography for wall hanger images. Be prepared when October arrives! In this class, we will cover everything from grand landscapes to pocket-sized photos, as well as moving water, lake reflections, best times of day, and appropriate weather.

Please bring your camera and appropriate memory card. Also, please have some familiarity with your particular camera controls.

This class is being held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coudersport office of the Potter County Education Council. Cost is $35 per person. To register, call 814-274-4877.

A+ Prep Course
This course is designed to help participants review the skills needed to sit for their A+ Certification Exams. Key topics covered include: maintenance, troubleshooting, operating systems, motherboards, processors, memories, printers, networking, system installation, configuration, and system upgrades.

The Potter County Education Council is an authorized Pearson VUE Testing Center, allowing participants to register and take their A+ Certification Exam at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center Office in Port Allegany.

This course, instructed by Nancy Burdick, is being held Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 20 through November 1, 2012 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at PCEC’s Port Allegany location. Tuition is $599 per student. To register, call 814-545-1333 or visit our website at www.pottercountyedcouncil.org

Advanced Woodburning
Take your woodburning skills to a new level! In this workshop, you can start a new project or finish one already in progress. New students are welcome. Instructor Mahlon Davenport will provide a choice of patterns, the wood, and a woodburning pencil for your use if you do not have your own. (All without a woodburning pencil are encouraged to get one, either from your own source or for $15 at the class. With your own pencil, you can continue this enjoyable craft at home!) Novice woodburners are also welcome.

This class is being held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Coudersport office of the Potter County Education Council. Cost is $20 per person. To register, call 814-274-4877.

CDL
The Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center has partnered with Buckler Transport to offer a CDL preparation program. This 6-week long program combines classroom instruction with behind the wheel training to prepare participants for their permit and licensing exams. Registration for each session of the program is limited to 4 participants to ensure that everyone has adequate time behind the wheel.

This course will run Monday through Friday, September 10 through October 19, 2012, and will include classroom training, permit testing, intro to driving, and road driving. Classroom instruction will take place at the Seneca Highlands Career & Technical. Registration fee is $4,995 and includes classroom instruction, behind the wheel training, permit testing fee, physical and drug testing fee, and licensing exam fees.
